Carolyn O’Meara’s main interests lie in the description of indigenous languages of Mexico, with a particular emphasis on Seri, a language isolate spoken in northwestern Mexico. She is especially interested in issues related to lexical semantics, spatial and temporal reference, as well as discourse structure. A common thread throughout her research is the relationship between language, cognition and culture. Her collaboration with the Meaning, Culture and Cognition group has to do with the description of olfactory language in Seri and also Huehuetla Tepehua, a Totonac-Tepehua language spoken in Hidalgo, Mexico.
